The Spirit Foundation - Education in Bonnievale
Early Childhood Development (ECD)
At the Spirit Foundation ECD Programme we aim to ensure all learners enrolled at one of our ECD facilities receives the very best foundation for their educational journey. Our qualified and passionate educators take pride in developing new and interactive ways of supporting the holistic development of our little learners, with a keen focus on emergent numeracy skills, language development and literacy, as well as social skills and emotional regulation. Our ECD learners should not only be on track by the time they graduate into the Spirit Foundation Primary School Programme, but should instead be thriving!
In Association with the Stellenbosch Business School Social Impact Committee, the Spirit Foundation ECD Programme celebrated Freedom Day in a fun and interactive way, teaching our learners about the value of democracy and their right to vote.
Mr. Rodger Kortje, a representative of the local council, came to share a brief talk with the learners at each of our ECD facilities to explain what democracy is and the importance of democracy within the South African context. Thereafter each learner had the opportunity to complete a 'registration form' by writing their name and placing their fingerprint on a 'registration form'. The learners were then directed through a 'play-play' voting station where they placed a vote on a ballot paper for one of two special surprises, popcorn or hot chocolate, which the learners received in the week that followed. Popcorn won the election with an outstanding 85% of the vote!
Primary School
Grade R Term 1 Results
The Spirit Foundation Primary School Programme Grade R learners have shown encouraging progress during Term 1 across Home Language, Mathematics and Life Skills. Our learners are developing age-appropriate skills and demonstrating growing confidence in their learning. A number of learners achieved strong outcomes, reflecting a good understanding of concepts and consistent effort. With continued support, encouragement and structured learning opportunities through our Milestone to Mastery education programme, all learners are well-positioned to go from strength to strength throughout the 2026 academic year.
Devante has distinguished herself as one of the top performers in the Grade R group this term. From the very beginning of the year, she has approached her learning with confidence, focus and enthusiasm. Devante demonstrates a strong understanding across all learning areas and is able to apply her knowledge independently and accurately. She engages positively in classroom activities and consistently produces work of a high standard. Her calm and self-assured approach to learning makes her a wonderful role model to her peers and she is well on track for continued academic success. Well done Devante! Spirit Foundation is proud of you.
Michael-Daniel Bam Foundation
Recently the Michael-Daniel Bam (MDB) Foundation came to visit Spirit Foundation Bonnievale.
The MDB Foundation generously donated school shirts and shoes to each of our 36 Spirit Scholars in our Spirit Foundation Primary School Programme, as well as a food hamper each. Their heartfelt donation helps support our learners and their loved ones as we head into winter.
The volunteers then joined us at one of our Spirit Foundation ECD Programme facilities to enjoy play time with our little learners and ended the day by reading our learners stories before nap time.
We are deeply grateful for impactful partnerships that help drive positive change in our community.
